Multimedia story draft

For my MultiMedia story project, I plan to spend a day outdoors visiting different locations around Victoria, including golfing, going to Willow’s beach, and walking around downtown Victoria. The purpose of my adventure is to take a break from stress and try to reconnect with the outdoors and nature.

Instead of creating a fast-paced adventure story, I want my project to focus on observing my surroundings and how a day outdoors can affect your mental health and mindset.

I plan to start the day with a coffee from Starbucks then going to a local golfcourse in the Victoria area. After golfing, I will go to Willow’s beach, get myself some lunch such as a hotdog and sit by the ocean while taking some photos. I also wanna spend some time walking around downtown Victoria to capture how beautiful it truly is as well as how much busier it is compared to the beach.

For this project I plan to use my phone for photos and videos, my notes app so i can write reflections, golf equipment and comfy walking shoes.

The story will follow my day from beginning to end and focus on my reflection. It will begin with feelings of stress and being tired, then follow my experiences golfing, walking downtown, and visiting the beach. The story will end with reflection on how spending time outdoors affected my mindset and mood.

I plan to add photos, videos, and even vlogs of me talking about how the adventure was afterwards.

Throughout the project, I plan to apply several of Mayer’s multimedia learning principles to make my story more engaging and meaningful. I will use the coherence principle by keeping my project simple and focused only on important visuals, reflections, and sounds that support the overall message of reconnecting with nature and improving mental health. I will avoid adding distracting effects, unnecessary music, or unrelated clips that could take attention away from the story.

will apply the modality principle by combining visuals such as videos and photos with spoken reflections and narration instead of relying only on large amounts of text. For example, while showing clips of the ocean, golfing, or downtown Victoria

The signaling principle will be used by organizing my project into clear sections that follow my day step-by-step. I may include titles, transitions, captions, or headings to guide viewers through each location and reflection so they can easily follow the story without becoming confused.

I will also use the contiguity principle by placing visuals and reflections close together so the audience can immediately connect what they are seeing with what I am feeling or explaining.

Another theory connected to my story is the dual processing theory, which explains how people process information through both visual and verbal channels. My project combines visuals, narration, reflections, and environmental sounds to help viewers emotionally connect with the experience while also understanding the message behind it.

One challenge I faced was that I recently injured my knee and tore my meniscus and possibly my ACL. This will make walking and moving difficult for me during my adventure. Because of this I have to slow down, and find ways to adapt to capture media. I decided to focus more on calm visuals and a reflective narrative. In some ways, these obstacles will help me shape the overall tone of the story as well as push myself to do things for myself which will make my story more meaningful.
