#tdc5065 #ds106 Going All Nostalgic On Us:
for this daily create, I had to pick a song from a year in my childhood. I chose the song Shut up and dance by WALK THE MOON. I chose thing song because I grew up as a dancer, and dance helped me find myself as well as make life long friends. My first memory of dance is this song playing on the first day of class and we were asked to make an improve styled type of dance with a partner, we spent the rest of class laughing, dancing and showing off our dances. This activity connects to Mayer’s modality principle because the combination of music and movement helped me remember the experience more effectively than words alone. Shut Up and Dance by WALK THE MOON used both auditory elements (hearing the song and lyrics) and visual/physical elements (watching and performing dance movements). According to Mayer’s modality principle, people learn better when information is presented through multiple forms, such as audio and visuals together, rather than relying on only one method.

#tdc3319 #ds106 A Picture’s Soundtrack
This daily create asked me to choose my favourite photo and pair it with a song that best represents it. I chose this photo because it was taken during the first week of my first year at University of Victoria. During that time, I made so many amazing friends, and a lot of them happened to live in my dorm building, which made those memories even more special.
This picture was taken at Thunderfest last year, and I still remember all of us blasting the song “Thunder” by Imagine Dragons. We got ready while listening to it, and we even played a game connected to the song before heading to the big game together. Because of those memories, I think “Thunder” represents this photo perfectly. An added bonus is that the song is also known as the UVic song, making it even more meaningful to this moment.

This daily create connects to Mayer’s Personalization Principle because it uses a personal memory and emotional connection to make the multimedia more meaningful. The combination of the photo and the song “Thunder” by Imagine Dragons helps tell the story of my first week at UVic and the friendships I made.
#tdc3606 #ds106 The Color of A Song:
For this daily create, we were asked to pick a song and a colour that we felt was a good representation of it. I chose the song Mr. Brightside by the killers.

I chose this song because when I think of the colour blue, I associate it with brightness, daylight, and clear skies on a sunny day. Even though blue can sometimes represent sadness, in this case I connect it more with energy and vivid memories, which matches the feeling the song gives me.
I think this fits into Mayer’s signalling principle as well as dual processing theory because the colour blue acts as a visual cue that helps highlight and organize the emotions and ideas connected to the song. The signalling principle explains that people learn and focus better when important information is emphasized through cues or highlights. In this activity, the colour helped guide my thinking and made the meaning behind the song easier to connect with. It also connects to dual processing theory because I was processing the song through both auditory information (the music and lyrics) and visual information (the colour blue).
